From Research to Real-World Applications: GDTech Shapes the Future of Horticulture with its LED Luminaire
At GDTech, innovation often stems from the combination of technological expertise and a deep understanding of real-world needs. It is within this context that the VeLiRe project was born, a collaborative initiative aimed at developing a high-performance, flexible LED horticultural lighting solution tailored to the requirements of both research and plant production.
Launched in 2015 and co-labelled by the Wagralim and MecaTech clusters, the project brought together several industrial and academic partners around a common objective: to better understand the impact of light on plant development in order to design a luminaire capable of meeting highly specific needs.
The result is an innovative multi-channel LED luminaire offering extensive customization possibilities. Thanks to its 16 independently adjustable channels, interchangeable LED boards, individual control system and passive cooling technology, it enables precise adaptation of lighting conditions to different crops and applications.
Beyond product development, VeLiRe enabled GDTech to strengthen its expertise in biotechnology and controlled-environment plant cultivation. The project also provided academic partners with a unique research tool to study the interactions between light and plants.
Now industrialized and deployed with its first customers, the VeLiRe luminaire perfectly illustrates GDTech’s ability to transform research initiatives into concrete, high-value solutions for the horticultural sector.
