Calibration of an LES Code for Predicting Pollutant (NOx) Emissions in an Aeronautical Combustion Chamber
ChallengesObjectives
As part of the FICOSI R&T project (Industrial SME/SMI Sector for Combustion and Injection Systems), GDTech worked on understanding pollutant formation mechanisms, their numerical implementation in a CFD code, and evaluating a code to predict NOx levels. This work was carried out using engine test results from a Safran Helicopter Engines.
This R&T project is part of the future investment program.
ProjectsGDTECH
- Literature Review on NOx Formation Mechanisms
- Evaluation of a simulation code’s ability to predict the temperature map at the chamber outlet and NOx emission indices
- Fuel droplet modeling (two-phase approach)
- Comparison of numerical results with test data (temperature map at the chamber outlet and EINOx)
- Identification of levers to reduce NOx production.
