2018 Combustion Internship: Improvement of a CFD RANS Method for Turbulent Combustion Modeling
ChallengesObjectives
As part of internal methodological developments, GDTech was able to develop new CFD RANS methods for turbulent combustion modeling. These efforts were applied to a practical application: the MERCATO test rig (Experimental Facility for Aerobic Combustion Research using Optical Techniques). This project aligns with the company’s goal to enhance its knowledge and expertise in this field, thereby expanding its scope of application and staying at the forefront of innovation.
ProjectsGDTECH
- Literature review of existing RANS combustion models
- Evaluation of a CFD RANS code’s ability to predict characteristic combustion parameters (temperature, flame position)
- Parametric study and comparison of the performance of different models
- Fuel droplet modeling (two-phase approach)
- Comparison of numerical results with experimental data and other numerical simulations (LES) from the literature.
